District Administration Magazine, Hewlett-Packard and Intel honor Burlington High School as a “2017 School of TechXcellence.”  District Administration magazine is honoring eleven schools and districts in reading and writing instruction and professional development initiatives as part of its Schools of TechXcellence program. This is the second round of honorees for this national recognition program.

TechXcellence was created by District Administration magazine, in conjunction with HP and Intel, to recognize schools that have implemented innovative, effective and replicable technology programs that contribute meaningfully to student or operational success. The December 2017 honorees were selected by the program’s judges from numerous nominations, and reflect programs that demonstrate effective and replicable success.

The eleven schools and districts honored in this round of TechXcellence—from eight states—have launched reading and writing instruction programs and professional development initiatives that incorporate technology powered by Intel, including laptops, tablets and 3D printers.

Burlington High School is being recognized for its “Cadre Training for 1-to-1 Success” program, which features professional development designed to support the implementation of technology in the classroom. The multi-session program addresses changing pedagogy, learning techniques for tech-infused classroom instruction, and developing practical management of devices.

“As a teacher who went through the Cadre Training and Action Research Days, it was a great opportunity to help with rethinking ways to teach students in the 21st Century classroom,” shared Burlington High School Principal Stacy Reed. “Now as the building administrator, I truly appreciate the depth and level the 1-to-1 Cadre brings to our individual teachers, so they can grow and then provide even more growth to their students.”

The Burlington High School initiative underscores the importance of embracing technology as part of the education process moving forward in the 21st century.

“Now that technology is an aspect of every classroom, teachers, principals and district leaders are finding more and more exciting and innovative ways to successfully implement it into learning,” says JD Solomon, editorial director at District Administration magazine. “We hope our readers are inspired by the creativity demonstrated by these honorees to launch similar initiatives in their own schools.”

“This award is a testament of the hard work put forth by our BHS Staff, BHS Administration and the USD 244 Educational Technology Department,” noted Burlington Superintendent of Schools Craig Marshall.   “Doug Vander Linden, Craig Kuhlmann and our district technology team have been instrumental in the implementation and professional development of educational technology projects for our staff district-wide.  This allows our staff to effectively implement strategies for successful technology instruction at Burlington High School.”
